"Audible is about deploying powerful technologies that allow the revival of current spoken language to go beyond the limits of time and place.
The sound of our imagination.
The online store is a digital warehouse of prosperous eloquence culture.
The idea here is to provide words that create simple joy, deep emotion, insight and the ability to do better in anything you want to do.
"This is an introductory sound document for every new voice listener ---part of a five-
The minute speech by author and voice founder Don Katz is also exaggerated and ambitious.
There is no doubt that the goal of this speech is to turn the digital world into a place of cultural thinking.
Aside from the out-of-sync MP3 files, kids, listen to Dante's Hell in The Economist headlines, and even Charlton Heston is chanting in the passage of the old man sea.
Audible describes himself as "end-to-
Terminal systems that securely deliver and manage advanced audio content over the Internet.
"In English, this means that Audible sells not only audio files, but also portable devices that play audio files.
To use the most modern digital references, the audible player is a cross between the Rio MP3 player and the Rocket eBook.
This is a digital download device that lets you get audio books, radio shows and news reports from the web and store them in a portable player for your own listening.
Like the MP3 player and digital book industry, Audible wants to completely change media distribution through the network and make profits while making profits.
At the same time, as Katz says, the company wants to "listen to the best spirit --
Raise missionaries to political figures in remote areas, to gold-
The Yankees were shouting the voice of the New World into the frontier and the glorious tradition of the story --
This reminds us of ancient epic poets.
This is a grand goal and an interesting product. -but with still-
The emerging technology could scare away national public radio audiences eager to hear voices. Audible.
Com sells two products: the mobile player and the sound audio file itself.
MobilePlayer is basically a glorified Walkman, except that it's more stylish ---
Compact and ergonomic, designed for handheld--
And store content using flash memory.
To enter the content into MobilePlayer, you must purchase the file from the sound.
Com online store, download them to your PC and transfer them to your player via docking system. The Audible.
The Com store itself provides a large number of notable audio files.
According to a company spokesman, the most popular is hundreds of audiobooks. -
Same book-read-
You can buy it out loud with cassette-
But you can also choose the popular NPR content (
Including "Car Talk" and "Fresh Air ")
, Get audio titles of news from some newspapers and magazines, and listen to recorded speeches and meetings.
You can listen to inspirational lectures that improve your business skills and listen to yourself
Improve the tape of books, or Shakespeare's performances.
Audible offers 15,000 hours of content for $199 a year
Long package subscription for $1.
For example, record the News of the day.
Audible sells two different versions of its mobile player: two
An hourly version for $149 and a brand
The new 7-and-a-half-hour version costs up to $299. The two-
The goal of the hourly edition is for commuters, and MobilePlayer comes with not only headphones, but also adapters that allow it to plug into the cassette tape of your car.
You can also "adjust" your radio to receive content from your mobile player, although this system is sometimes difficult to adjust (
Watch out for the screaming sound when your radio is not fully tuned).
The sound is great for those who are also avid listeners.
For example, I immediately signed up for the Terry Gross interview show, which I always seem to have missed.
Every afternoon, Audible sends a reminder by email
The email says the new version is ready to pick up and then I will download it to my mobile player immediately and throw it in my bag to get my bus to commute.
I also subscribe to the daily business headlines of The Wall Street Journal (
If you want to know, the voice of the Wall Street Journal is a hypothetical voice.
Sounds young.
And ordered an audiobook for Angela's Ashes (
Which, to its 15-
The length of the hour should only take me a month or two to get it done).
Although the sound quality is not the best--
Even worse than AM radio-
It's great to be able to listen to my favorite NPR show in my spare time.
As Katz promised, I felt like I had become a culture;
After all, I was sitting on the bus listening to the Wall Street Journal and the interview with spuddin gray instead of staring casually at the graffiti in my front seat.
Experience is definitely qualified as a "simple pleasure "(
Even though politicians in the backcountry were not present).
My first two complaints about me
The reason for Hour eplayer is that it does not store enough content.
I can't travel on the road unless I drag along my laptop to refresh the content every two hours.
The seven and a half hour version is better equipped for this use, but still not long enough for a major road trip.
Also, although the interface for MobilePlayer is simple ---
Many large blue buttons allow you to rewind and fast forward, bookmark clips or scroll the audio "title "---
This is too opaque: it would be better to show you the digital display of what you actually store on the player.
But more of a problem is that the software that downloads your content to your mobile player is very complicated.
The download and upload of fresh audio involves three different programs, each of which seems to have its own ideas.
You may have six or seven pieces of content that you want to cram into your mobile player, and organizing schedules, spaces, and updates for those content is the best balancing feat for those who are good at complex math problems.
Better instructions may also help: While your MobilePlayer can obviously download your daily subscription automatically, I haven't been able to make the operation work even though I 've looked into two instructions
Basically, the main attraction of sound is that you can listen to audio on demand, without going to the bookstore to buy audiobooks, or sitting on the radio waiting for your favorite show.
But unfortunately, this is still a small advantage compared to the current simulation option;
The content management system that can be heard is too limited and too confusing, and no one is worth investing except for the busiest and most literary technology enthusiasts.
Of course, this is a problem for most of the new portable content devices on the market;
This technology still does not provide completely intuitive content transfer from the network.
Unfortunately, customers with a culture may not have the interest or patience to deal with the technical barriers that products are holding them back.
Audible also faces the problem of convincing consumers that it will cost hundreds of dollars to buy a new electronic device.
Who else needs another device to ship when your radio and Walkman can essentially achieve the same purpose (
According to the Securities and Exchange Commission document recently submitted by Audible, only 3,900 customers downloaded the content from the Audible website, and the company's total revenue last year was $376,000.
Despite this, Audible has received support from many big names ---
Including Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Hambrecht & Quist, Compaq, Intel and Microsoft's recent $11 million investment. )
In response, Audible is now pushing its subscription content to someone else's device: the company has converted daily readings from the New York Times to MP3 format for distribution on MP3.
Com, and will provide some MP3 format content for the upcoming Diamond and creative MP3 players.
As a bigger boon, portable Windows CE devices from companies like Casio, Compaq, Philips and HP are now coming with audible software.
The CE portable device will store and play sound content like a mobile player.
However, these devices currently have about 8 megabytes of RAM, and it takes about 2 megabytes of content per hour to hear-
So unless you plan to have your CE device relatively free of phone numbers and emails
Mail, you will only get an audio play token for an hour or two before the handheld computer runs out of storage space and battery power.
Still, this seems to be the most meaningful direction for audio in Audibleon-Demand business.
Maybe the future will bring us a multi-functional portable device with unlimited storage space.
MP3 music, radio and Audible audio files are required, and digital books can even be displayed. (
Hell, throw the phone for a better measure. )
Now, however, all these different products still seem to be vying for the attention of a fledgling young man --
Audience.
While the cultural "revival" of Don Katz may be encouraging, Audible offers more potential prospects than the current utility.
