If you go to the forest today, you will be surprised. . .
Google's Boston power company released a video of its Atlas robot roaming the forest.
This video shows that the humanoid machine has a power cord on the back and goes through the forest path unsteadily without falling.
Atlas has 28 hydraulic drive joints and stereo vision, with a height of 6ft 2 and a weight of 150 kg lbs ).
Mark Rebert, founder of Boston Dynamics, acquired by Google in 2013, discussed the project at a seminar in Cambridge, Massachusetts this month.
"We are interested in getting this robot into the world," he said . ".
"The outside world is completely different from the lab.
"You can't predict what it will look like.
"All kinds of things happen there and we're making good progress on that, so its mobility is within your shooting range.
"I'm not saying it can do everything you can, but you can imagine we'll get there if we keep working.
Boston power is developing an Atlas upgrade that does not require a tether, he said.
The robot is already equipped with a lithium-
The ion battery pack can keep it moving for about an hour.
But developers admit that there is still a long way to go.
This summer, Atlas faces down in a game at the Pentagon, trying to find a robot that can best deal with environments such as the Fukushima nuclear power plant's 2011-level disaster in Japan.
