On Tuesday morning, seven people ran away with their clothes behind their clothes after the fire burned their lanburwood car home.
Lisa Willard said she was woken up by some loud bangs after two in the morning. m.
Smell smoke.
When her husband went to investigate, he found flames in the garage.
"He quickly ran back upstairs, grabbed the other kids, yelled and told everyone, 'fire, get out of the house, '" Willard said '. ".
The couple stayed at home with Lisa's mother and three children.
A friend of her eldest son also spent the night here.
She went downstairs to pick up her mother and her mother's dog and went out through the back door.
The family can also save other pets, including a rabbit and a red squirrel.
One cat died in the fire and the second was found later in the morning, still alive.
Three cats are missing.
When firefighters doused the fire and Willard was able to take out a personal item from the House on Tuesday morning, the family had nothing.
She said, "I have nothing . . . . . . I got a shirt, a coat and a pair of boots . ".
There is a smoke alarm system at home, but it is hard wired.
The electrical panel is located in the garage, and Wasaga Beach deputy fire chief Wes Higgins said the power supply for the alarm may have been burned before the alarm was detonated.
"It was lucky that everyone came out," Higgins said . ".
New legislation now requires a hardwired smoke alarm system to back up batteries, Higgins said.
Higgins said that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, which may cause losses of about $400,000.
Higgins said that the explosion heard by the family may have been the explosion of tires in the garage in the fire.
"Apart from being in the car, we found a lot of rims and tires in the garage, so I think one of them exploded and that's why they woke up, he said.
"We have seven casualties here.
It's a good thing they wake up, but the alarm is not ringing, it's not a good thing.
Higgins said the fire department had handled several recent garage fires and advised residents to install smoke alarms in the garage.
"Because sometimes you may cause inconvenience to it.
When the staff arrived, the house was swallowed up and the focus was to minimize exposure to the neighboring house, Higgins said.
"These guys are doing very well," he said . ".
Neighbor James MacArthur said his dog woke him up around two in the morning. m.
When his wife brought the dog outside, she saw the fire.
"He's just starting to turn over and over in our bedroom, barking and turning out," MacArthur said . ".
"I slept for about 30 seconds and she flew back into the house and said [
Neighbor's Housewas on fire.
"I caught the children and came out. there was only a flame there.
