Article 1984 of the Road Traffic Management Act stipulates that if there is a street light system on the road that is not more than 200 yards apart, the road is limited to 30 miles per hour.

He said: "many or even most residential roads do not have a speed limit sign and are legally limited to 30 mph if they have up to 200 yards or so of working street lights.
