The team focused its work on making the lithium anode more stable by adding nano-diamond to the electrolyte solution of the battery, and the lithium plating more uniform.
Nano-diamond, as a way to make the metal coating more uniform, has been used in the electroplating industry for some time.
While nano diamonds are much smaller and cheaper than those used in jewelry, they still retain the regular structure and shape of expensive ancestors.

The researchers found that lithium ion is easily attached to nano-diamond, so when they plated the electrodes, it is in the same orderly way as the nano-diamond particles they connect.
