Tesla Motors said on Thursday it won a offer of 20-
Megawatt energy storage system for substations owned by California utility corporation Southern California Edison (SCE_pe. A).
The deal is part of Tesla's efforts to expand its business to provide storage-energy batteries for homes, businesses and utilities.
The system will become one of the world's largest lithium-ion battery storage projects once completed, and will be able to maintain enough power to power 2,500 households, tesla said in a blog post on its website.
The project will be located at the utility Loma substation in Ontario, California.
Southern California Edison is a unit of Edison International.
