New Zealanders can now order Tesla cars directly from electric vehicles. California-
S. -based Tesla Motors also reiterated its plan this morning to open a store and service center in Auckland next year and open charging stations "from Auckland to Wellington.
While some Tesla cars have been privately imported into the country, from today on, New Zealanders can order Model S and Model X vehicles directly from the company's website.
Model S starts at $109,300 and Model X starts at $145,200.

It is expected that the first orders will be delivered to New Zealand between next April and June.
Tesla also plans to launch its latest home battery storage device in New Zealand, although the technology has no release date.
The device, called Powerwall 2, will allow "homeowners to store solar energy during the day so they can use solar during peak hours at night or during power outages ".
"New Zealand's excess of electricity is generated from renewable sources, so it's a natural step forward for Tesla to offer energy storage solutions to local residents.
Powerwall will enable homeowners to store energy during off-peak hours, support power networks and achieve greater power grid autonomy, "the company said this morning.
For the three months ended September, Tesla's global sales exceeded expectations after the company missed its sales target twice in a row.
