Stem Inc.
An energy supplier in California
The company agreed to provide software and batteries to Austin Energy to help Texas utilities integrate more solar systems into the grid.
Stem will deploy up to 1 MW of power
Storage chief executive John Carrington said in an interview that the battery capacity reached an hour in Austin's energy services business.
This is the first time Stem entered Texas after installing systems in California and Hawaii.
The agreement shows an increasing demand for storage, which makes it easier for utilities to manage intermittent power in wind and solar power plants.
Over 500 megawatts of utilities worldwide
According to a Bloomberg report on New Energy Finance in December, scale storage was commissioned last year, the largest ever.
"This proves that it is feasible to store in more states," Carrington said . ".
Part of the project comes from $4. 3 million U. S.
The DOE allocation aims to reduce the cost of electricity for systems that combine solar and storage to less than 14 cents per kilowatt. hour.
Karl Popham, manager of electric vehicles and emerging technologies at Austin Energy, said Texas and Austin are also helping fund Stem deployments.
Austin Energy will use Stem systems to help integrate solar energy into the grid, Popham said.
Batteries will also help customers avoid energy use costs when demand peaks. The municipal-
State-owned utilities have set a target of 55% of electricity from renewable sources by 2025.
