Massachusetts House Speaker Robert delio has unveiled a plan to spend $1 billion over the next 10 years to help towns adopt new technologies aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen infrastructure construction and reduce municipal costs. Initiative-
Called GreenWorks
Resources for renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change efforts will be included.
The Democrat said the municipality will receive a competitive grant to cover projects such as solar energy, energy storage, micro-grid and electric vehicle charging stations.
He says he wants funding.
If the proposal becomes law
Contribute to the promotion of renewable energy projects in communities.
The news was announced Friday at the Green City Lab in Somerville, known as the "largest cleaning technology incubator" in the United States ".
The money will come from the sale of bonds, Mr De Leo said.
He hopes the Legislature will do so this year.
He described the plan as a "realistic and practical way" to increase renewable energy and strengthen infrastructure to deal with climate change ".
Local communities are aware of the challenges posed by climate change, he said.
He said the provision of grants also helped to prompt some to think about how to increase reliance on renewable energy projects.
"This will give them the opportunity to do these projects," DeLeo said . ".
"They had to come up with good ideas.
Although he represents Winthrop, De Leo says the challenge of climate change is more than just the concerns of coastal communities.
"It involves every city and town, regardless of their needs," he said . ".
Green City CEO Emily Reichert said DeLeo's proposal coincides with the company's mission of "supporting clean technology startups and helping their technology to market.
Under the plan, the grant will be managed by the Executive Office of National Energy and Environmental Affairs.
The state continues to take steps to increase its dependence on renewable energy.
Earlier this month, the Republican government
Charlie Baker has announced more than $500,000 in funding for what he calls the eight "early"
The stage for clean energy.
"Environmental activists are also pushing for a series of bills designed to reduce the state's carbon footprint and waste.
A bill tries to help save taxpayers' money, which is spent on trying to recycle what the protection law Foundation calls a waste of packaging.
The group says the community has little control over the proliferation of disposable items and they have to bear the cost of recycling them, which they say can reach tens of thousands to tens of thousands of dollars a year.
The bill will transfer part of these recovery costs to companies that make packaging.
Another piece of legislation would require all the big

Another bill will update the electrical efficiency standards for a dozen products, including commercial dishwashers, commercial frying pans, water dispensers and faucets.
