But homeowner of Chiswick Park Road and the surrounding area complained that their night was destroyed by the dazzling light pouring in from the windows.
They said the lights caused them to have sleepless nights and have now taken the approach used in the blitz to keep the light out.
The lights are more affordable, consume less power and provide more directional light, which means less light pollution.
But Kristina feynley says she has to "close the Venetian blinds with duck straps every day" to darken the light.
She told the BBC: "The light through one side of the blinds is like a huge spotlight that will shine on your face when you try to relax with your family at night.

Cllr Colin Ehler, deputy leader of the hornslow committee, said: "It is true that a small number of residents have told us that our new street lights are too bright and their sleep is disturbed, which I can fully understand.
Many residents also said they were very pleased with the new standard of street lighting.
"The new lights may go dark and we will be on trial soon.
However, the new lights do help save energy, save money from parliamentary taxpayers, and are believed by the police to help fight crime due to better quality lights.
