Livonia, Michigan.
With over 100,000 citizens, excellent schools and parks, it is one of the best hamburger chains in Michigan-
At present, Michigan has the largest advanced battery factory in North America, further consolidating Michigan's status as the world's advanced battery capital.
Yesterday, I was proud to attend the grand opening ceremony of the 291,000-square-foot lithium-ion battery manufacturing plant for the A123 System in livoronia.
The new Livonia plant will enable the entire battery production process to be carried out under one roof, from R & D to battery pack assembly.
Most importantly, the new plant has created more than 300 new jobs in Michigan, and the production plan of A123 System will also provide 3,000 clean technology jobs.
This is good news for Michigan.
This is good news for US manufacturing.
Perhaps most importantly, this is good news for our country's energy future, helping to ensure that we do not replace our current dependence on foreign oil with dependence on foreign batteries.
In this country, no other place has done more than Michigan in leading the advanced battery industry ---
It pays off through innovative public services.
Private partnerships like this have made A123 the center of America. S.
Manufacturing in Michigan
We were the first state to target the advanced battery industry, and when I signed the bill into law in December 2008, we implemented the most aggressive advanced battery incentives in the country.
As a result, Michigan's program received more rewards in the Recovery Act
The Department of Energy has more grants than any other state: more than $1.
Grant 35 billion.
Today, Michigan has 16 state-of-the-art battery facilities that are expected to create 63,000 new jobs for our workers over the next decade.
I wrote about how Michigan led the green industrial revolution. -
But I did not share the stories of some of the workers who led the charge.
Take a look at the video below with some of the great clean energy workers employed by the Livonia plant at a123: you can see the pride on the faces of the a123 workers and hear it from their voices.
They know they are helping shape the clean energy future of our country and lead the recovery in Michigan.
Half of the new employees at the Livonia plant at A123 did not work before.
This is a strong proof of the job.
The potential to create clean energy.
The new Livonia facility of A123 System is a successful case.
Another example of how Michigan transformed the rust belt into a green belt.
