A 30-megawatt (MW)
Batteries will be built on the peninsula of Adelaide west to strengthen the power supply network in South Australia.
According to the project, which is expected to cost about $30 million, grid provider electica will design, build and own the battery, which will be located at the existing Dalrymple substation in the north of the town of Cambridge.
Electica will lease batteries to an energy retailer, and the federal government will make up to $12 million in donations through Australia's Renewable Energy Agency, saying the batteries are expected to be put into use by next February.
Just a few weeks ago, the South Australian government announced a partnership with Tesla and entrepreneur Elon Musk to build a 100 MW battery near the Hornsdale wind farm. It is still under construction in the north of the state near Jamestown.
In last September, South Australia had a power outage across the state, and continued power supply issues prompted the State Government to outline a range of measures to improve network stability, including 100 MW of batteries and new $0. 36 billion in natural gas.
Thermal power plant.
The federal government says the battery on the PlayStation Peninsula will help balance the SA Power Network and reduce operating restrictions on the Heywood connector between Victoria and SA.
In recent weeks, some federal ministers have played down SA's efforts to improve the reliability of its power supply.
Federal Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg said that when the Jamestown 100 MW battery project was announced, it was "a small announcement in terms of some of the challenges facing South Australia, because the penetration rate of wind energy and solar energy is so high ".
Mr. Frydenberg and Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis of SA officially announced the dallinpur joint venture today in Whyalla.
The battery will help ensure the "weak points" of the state's energy system, according to flenberg ".
"This is an insecure part of the network," he said . "
"Nearly 5,000 households and 500 businesses in the region are likely to be powered off, and we need to make sure that not only do they have reliability on their own, but that the entire network will not be powered off because of a power outage is a special weakness
"Mr. Koutsantonis was surprised that the federal government was accepting the latest battery project.
"It certainly, especially given the ridicule of the 100 MW battery by the Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Josh flenberg himself," he said . ".
The Lyon Group also plans to build a solar farm and battery storage on the river beach in South Australia, which it promises will be bigger than Tesla.
