Prime Minister Jay Weatherill said the construction of a $0. 65 billion solar thermal power plant confirmed South Australia as an international leader in renewable energy.
Mr. Weatherill opened the SolarReserve office in Port Augusta on Tuesday, which supports 150-
Megawatt solar thermal power plants will be built in the north of the town.
Mr. Weatherill said: "Port Augusta is a symbol of the new and old exchanges between South Australia and Australia . "
"We are already leading the world in renewable energy technology, the world's largest lithiumion battery.
"Work has not yet started and funding has not been finalized, but solar power plants are expected to start powering state government schools in 2020, hospitals and other facilities under the age of 20year deal.
"SolarReserve is looking to build six solar thermal projects in the state over the next 10 years," said Tom Georgis, senior vice president.
Port Augusta's transition to renewable energy is in coal.
As part of the state's broader push for sustainable power, the Northern thermal power plant was shut down in 2016.
These include the world's largest lithium.
The ion Battery recently built by tech billionaire Elon Musk in the middle of the state
Renewable energy fund of $0. 15 billion.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister also launched the first Lincoln Gap Wind Farm to cost $0. 45 billion near Port Augusta, which is expected to create 130 jobs and own itself.
