HP Mini 11501nr netbook overview HP Mini 11501nr is part of the netbook/mobile broadband package currently available at Verizon Wireless.
We'll take a closer look at the details of this package in another review, but here we'll limit ourselves to focusing primarily on the netbook section of the transaction.
After this review, we will give more
Learn more about the hardware components of the HP Mini 11501nr netbook.
But for those who want to know what this PC contains before reading further, here is an overview of the hardware specs.
Hardware specifications for HP Mini 551nr netbook product settings (5 out of 5)
Like most netbooks, almost all laptops now, HP Mini 11501nr netbooks are out of the box and easy to install.
Just turn on the battery pack and connect the power cord.
While the battery may have enough power to turn on the netbook right away, it is likely that you will need to plug in the device and charge it before you start configuring the settings.
The setup instructions that came with the netbook warn that the battery won't charge, but I was lucky to get a pre-charge
Charge the battery with the model I received.
This is not a given condition though, so it's better to go ahead and plan to charge the device first. Design (5 out of 5)
With an elegant, simple design, HP mini551nr perfectly combines functionality with a charming look.
The upper part of the netbook is smooth black with almost no noticeable silver whirlpool pattern on the lid.
The lower half of the device is the more basic matte black that I have noticed (ahem)
Quite dirty, scratch resistant. (
Yes, I managed to awkwardly drop the machine a few times in the hours after I first received it. )
The keyboard on the HP Mini 11501nr is a real treat.
One of the problems I have with most netbooks and all my laptops is the keyboard.
I work on my desktop most of the time, so I'm used to the full size keyboard.
When I have to switch to a keyboard that uses a much smaller size, I feel clumsy and inefficient when typing.
Since 551nr is a wider range of netbooks, it is able to integrate an "almost" full netbook
Large size keyboard design with large, flat and easy to operate keys.
This should be a clear advantage for those who prefer a more complete keyboard.
While I still prefer to connect the mouse to the netbook as a pointing device, I have not completely ignored the touchpad of the 111nrr.
The TouchPad has a central dedicated scroll board that has clickable selection buttons on both sides.
This reduces the number of times I accidentally "click" while scrolling-this is a very frustrating thing I found in other laptops.
There is a small button above the TouchPad, and if you like to work without a touchpad and don't want to brush your teeth by accident while typing, you can click on it to completely close the TouchPad.

Popular features of the device. Performance (4 out of 5)
HP Mini 11501nr is equipped with the SP3 operating system of Windows XP Home Edition.
The initial setup and configuration of the device takes about 10 minutes.
After that, in the absence of a change in the initial configuration, the netbook takes about 45 seconds from the cold start.
It's not too bad, but you can save some time with a little optimization.
For other aspects, 15. 1nr is consistent with other netbooks of similar specifications. Internet-
Various connection speeds limit activity-based activities than anything else.
Basic word processing, image viewing, and running PC maintenance software went smoothly without any glitches or hiccups.
Although I plan to test some higher
End apps like photo editor in the future, netbooks are really not built to handle such software, so any decent performance of these apps will be an added benefit. Connectivity (5 out of 5)
The HP Mini 11501nr offers a wide range of options for Internet connectivity.
With an integrated 10/100 Ethernet LAN network card, you can use the netbook with a cable or DSL modem at home.
In addition, netbooks will search and detect all available Wi-Fi networks.
Finally, with the Verizon mobile broadband package, the netbook is built in-
Available in a 3g modem connected to the Verizon data network.
Verizon's VZAccess Manager is pre-
Install to help manage Wi-
Fi and Verizon connections, but when you open the app for the first time, you are asked if you want to update to an updated version that is easier to use.
Definitely choose this option because the updated VZAccess Manager is a great improvement over the old software. Battery (2 out of 5)A 3-cell lithium-
The HP Mini 11501nr comes with an ion polymer battery.
This may be my only real disappointment with this machine.
With this battery, you'll be lucky to get three hours of usage from the netbook, and less if you're watching the video.
If you are planning to need a netbook for a longer time without an AC socket, you should consider investing in the second 3-
Battery or purchase 6-cell extended-
Battery life through HP. Price to value (4 out of 5)
If you sign up for two games
The annual mobile broadband contract with Verizon allows you to purchase the HP Mini 11501nr for $199.
Although this is a big discount on the cost of a netbook without a contract (
Verizon lists the retail price of $466.
64 on the invoice for sales tax purposes)
You still carry those two. year contract.
In any case, this is no problem if you need a mobile broadband plan, as Verizon's price is very competitive with other operators in the industry.
So this package is hard to beat for a combined transaction of netbook/mobile broadband.
However, if you are not interested in the mobile broadband features of netbooks, even if the price is higher, you 'd better buy one of the other netbooks in the HP Mini series-you'll save a lot of money in the long run. Overall rating (4 out of 5)
As far as netbooks are concerned, the HP Mini 11501nr is a great little machine.
My only real problem with the device is that there are very few batteries that come with the netbook.
If there is an option to upgrade to 6-I wouldn't mind paying more for the netbookcell battery.
In all other ways, whether it's portability, design, performance, or connectivity, 551nr is a solid performer worthy of its price.
