Due to the bankruptcy of PG & E Corp, a large battery storage project that will help replace three natural gas power plants in California may need to be scrapped, according to court documents filed this week.
PG & E, a California electricity and gas supplier, filed for bankruptcy protection in January as it is expected that the state's wildfire will cause significant responsibility.
Bankruptcy poses a threat to California's ambitions for climate change as PG & E has signed dozens of large solar, wind and other clean energy projects with other companies.
Energy developer esVolta LP said in a document submitted to the United States that because PG & E can refuse a bankruptcy contractS.
On Wednesday, the bankruptcy court in San Francisco said it was worried that it would not be able to queue up for financing its 75 MW hummingbird battery storage project.
"The status of the hummingbird has become untenable," EsVolta said in the document, noting that PG & E indicated that it was unable to make a decision on whether to retain or refuse to use the planned battery --

The company is one of four companies that received large battery storage contracts from PG & E last year, clean and costly

Others are Tesla, Dynegy, Vistra Energy, and Micronoc.
EsVolta did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
PG & E stated that, as part of its bankruptcy proceedings, it did not make any decision to undertake or reject the contract.
"PG & E recognizes its important role in supporting California's commitment to the Clean Energy Initiative and remains committed to continuing to help California achieve its clean energy goals.
We understand the concerns of state-wide stakeholders about the possible impact of Chapter 11 filing on the state's clean energy progress, "utility said in an email statement.
Tesla declined to comment on its 182 contract.

Neither Dynegy nor Micronoc responded to requests for comment on its projects, which were used for facilities of 300 MW and storage of 10 MW, respectively.
A megawatt can power about 750 homes at the same time.
The California Utilities Commission approved the contracts last year, which said it believed the contracts for Tesla, Dynegy and Micronoc would not be affected.

"CPUC believes that other projects will be able to continue project development," CPUC spokesman Terrie Prosper said in an email . ".
The energy storage market is still small, but the battery has long maintained a commitment to address the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources such as wind energy and solar energy, so its development is closely watched by investors, regulators and power companies.
The hummingbird storage facility is scheduled to begin construction in 2020.
