Kolkata: NTPC will use the battery energy storage system to establish a solar project with a capacity of 50 mw (BESS)
Different locations in Andaman Island and Port Blair, Nicobar Islands.
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
Signed between the governments of NTPC, Andaman and nicoba and the Department of New and Renewable energy (MNRE)on Friday.
An official said it was part of the State Environmental Protection Agency's green commitment to the Indian government.
This is the second such effort this year for the islands.
On August, NLC India Ltd. invited interested people to set up a 20 mw (AC)
The grid interactive photovoltaic solar power generation project integrating Attampahad and BESS in Port Blair.
At present, 42 power companies have met the electricity needs of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Some of them are Hydro-
The remaining power is generated from solar power.
Due to the geographical and topographic features of the islands, including the separation of long distances at sea, there is no single grid for all live islands.
A power company independently meets the power needs of a region.
Before independence, the British installed a small steam-driven reciprocating DG generator with a capacity of 100 on Ross Island in 1926.
On 1929, the port of Blair installed a dc dg unit with a capacity of 100.
After independence, in 1951, the power company in Chatham Island established two sets of 550 steam turbine generator sets.
The boiler is operated with wood fuel and sawdust, which is the waste of the Chatham Saw factory.
They later switched to mangrove forests as fuel.
This is the beginning of the Port Blair AC power supply, said the power department officials from the & N Islands.
