Scientists at Stanford University have developed a new cheap aluminum battery that can charge the phone in a minute.
The new aluminum battery is much safer than the existing lithium battery
Currently widely used ions and alkaline batteries will not catch fire, the researchers said.
"We have developed a rechargeable aluminum battery that can replace existing storage devices such as alkaline batteries and lithium that are harmful to the environment-
"Ion batteries occasionally catch fire," said Dai Hongjie, a professor of chemistry at Stanford University.
"Our new battery won't catch fire even if you get in," said Dai . ".
Aluminum has long been an attractive material for batteries, mainly because of its low cost and high flammable properties
Charging storage capacity, the researchers said. An aluminium-
The ion battery consists of two electrodes: a negative anode made of aluminum and a positive cathode.
"People have tried different kinds of cathode materials," Dai said . ".
"We accidentally discovered a simple solution, which is to use graphite, which is basically carbon.
In our research, we found several graphite materials with very good performance . "
The team placed aluminum anode and graphite cathode and ionic liquid electrolyte in flexible polymercoated pouch.
"The electrolyte is basically a salt that is liquid at room temperature, so it is very safe," said Ming Gong, a graduate student at Stanford University.
Lead author of the study.
Luminium batteries are safer than conventional lithium
Today, millions of laptops and mobile phones use ion batteries, Dai added.
Smartphone users know it can take hours to charge a lithium batteryion battery.
But the team reported that the "unprecedented charging time" of the aluminum prototype had dropped to a minute.
Aluminum batteries developed by other laboratories usually die after charging 100
Discharge cycle.
But Stanford batteries can withstand more than 7,500 cycles without losing capacity.
"This is the first timefast aluminium-
"Ion batteries are stable in thousands of cycles," the researchers said . ".
"Another feature of the aluminum battery is flexibility.
You can bend and fold it, so it is possible to use it in a flexible electronic device.
Aluminum is also a cheaper metal than lithium, "Gong said.
