Ion batteries power mobile phones, laptops and other portable electronics.
But, like any battery, they crash over time.
"There are many different types of degradation that can help us with this degradation for a longer period of time --
"Lasting batteries," said Scott White, material engineer at the University of Illinois at Urbana.
Champaign reported the details of the battery at a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in February 20.
One part of the damage is the anode, the terminal with negative power of the battery.
The anode expands and shrinks when the battery is charged and discharged.
This cycle can cause damage over time, create cracks, interfere with the flow of current, and eventually kill the battery. To c
