George Town: a man named Mei Goren (fried noodles)
Seller Abdul Karim Parker may be 92 years old but he is not ready to resign yet.
"I like what I do very much, so I don't want to resign.
"My body has pain all over the place because I'm old, but it won't stop me from continuing to do what I should do," he said at the booth on Tamil street here.
For more than 30 years, Abdul Karim has been trading on a temporary trolley near the Chowrasta Market complex.
The price of his plate of may Goren is still 2 yuan.
As long as he is there, there are 50.
Abdul Karim and his daughter live in Jalam macpen, who is not interested in ingredients.
In addition, the section is the same as any may Gorun sold elsewhere in Penang.
"All I need to do is make a little money.
Why should I charge so much?
"I don't even need to pay anyone to help me like I do anything myself.
"I go to my booth by bus every morning.
"I usually open from eleven o'clock A. M. to ten o'clock P. M. ," he added . ".
When asked how to start selling fried noodles, Abdul Karim effortlessly recalled the day he left India for Malaya.
"In India, I am a fisherman who came to Malaya in 1947.
"When I came here with my younger brother and sister, I was 24 and we worked in a coffee shop where I learned to speak Malay.
"I could only read Tamil at that time, but I could speak a little English," he said . ".
Abdul Karim added that the coffee shop was sold five years later, when he made a living selling lakh sands.
"I will order the fish from Teluk Bahang because the lak sand needs good fish.
I sold laksa at the Marina Arts center for about 40 years and decided to close due to lack of customers.
"Then I switched to may Goren, which I have been selling for today," he said . ".
When asked about his wife, tears filled his eyes.
He refused to talk about her except to say that she had died.
Hawker Mohd Taufique Seeni Mohamed, 31, said the old man's booth would be completely dark at night as the trolley had no lights.
"His shopping cart is directly in Africa.
"He said.
"We have complained to the authorities about this and they visited the site but did nothing.
