The opposition said that in the past few months, many people have been trapped in elevators, and they asked if they were being inspected after checking several positions vacant by staff.
"Out of a total of 32 positions in the elevator inspection engineer, 12 were vacant.
Every three months, we publish a chart on the (official) website that checks the total number of elevators.
"In the case of most elevator failures, it was observed that the elevator was stopped due to power failure," Patil said . ".
He also said that under the relevant laws established in 2012, elevator manufacturers must abide by two rules.
He further elaborated that, according to the rules, there should be enough spare batteries in the elevator so that if the power supply suddenly stops, it should be able to reach the nearest floor so that people can leave it.
Secondly, there should be a mechanism that, if the lift carries the excess weight, it should automatically start to beep.
"We will make sure that these rules are followed in terms of elevators.
In addition, the state government is considering the mandatory installation of cctv and glass doors in all elevators, "Patil told the House.
