Lowest cost for solar panels in Aus: study - energy storage companies

A new study on the growth of renewable energy demand found that Australia's solar panel costs are the lowest in the world.
Deloitte's Global Renewable Energy Trends report released on Thursday said that falling costs and technological advances have driven demand for renewable energy, with solar and wind energy reaching price and performance parity both inside and outside the grid.
Wind and solar power are now seen as solutions to strengthen the resilience and reliability of the grid, rather than as obstacles, the report said.
Smart inverters and advanced controls mean that wind and solar energy can provide reliability related to frequency, voltage and slopes "and or better" than other power supplies.
A report on 2016 statewide power outages in South Australia found problems with wind farms in some states. when the main transmission lines were closed due to bad weather, the wind farm was closed.
Deloitte's Michael Rath says power outages across the state are a combination of connector failures and abnormal weather events.
"The subsequent deployment of a large-scale solar farm and the installation of a 100 MW battery storage facility enabled South Australia to achieve greater network resilience and grid stability, he told AAP in a statement.
"The introduction of renewable energy and energy storage adds greater flexibility to the network to mitigate the occurrence of these events.
Deloitte said that although the federal government withdrew from the national energy security, the future will be the increasing integration of renewable energy into the grid and the transition from traditional energy forms.
The study found that the cost of solar panels in Africa is the highest due to investment costs.
"South Australia, along with China, has the lowest unsubsidized cost of solar power generation," Mr Rath said . "
Deloitte says China, the United States and Germany have reached price parity on some renewable energy sources.
The study says demand is driven by cities that use renewable technologies in their infrastructure, a trend in which communities use storage and management systems to meet off-site demand

30 of Fortune's top 100 companies have set renewable energy targets, which the company says is growing "very rapidly" in Australia.
