A new type of "smart" street lamp has just arrived in Shanghai, China.
According to the People's Daily Online, the new lamps allow users to charge electric vehicles, surf the Internet and even monitor pollution.
The 15 lights released in October 27 are the first trials to be launched under more expectations in the future.
While the main function of the lamp is to illuminate the street, it has been equipped with several different functions.
First of all, it can act as a free wifi hotspot, allowing users to access the internet after registering.
Emergency services have a direct call button to report events faster.
For visitors, it is possible to obtain useful information through a central catalogue, such as road traffic and details of local businesses, bars and restaurants.
The lights also offer a range of new eco-friendly features, including allowing people with electric cars to charge their cars.
In order to pay for the electricity bill used through the phone, the driver needs to download an app and slide the QR code of the light.
A representative of the Shanghai Construction Commission hopes that this will encourage the development of more electric vehicles in the city in the future.
In addition, these lamps can also be used to monitor the level of pollution in the atmosphere.
However, compared with the cost of typical lamps, the cost of smart lamps is also considerable, starting from about 500 yuan (£50).
The price of each smart lamp is 20,000 yuan (£2,000)
An additional 20 000 yuan for the construction and installation of all gadgets.
The cost of operating the lights is unknown.
At present, 15 lamps have been tried and operated in the center of Shanghai near Dagu Road, Shi Lu and Chengdu Road North.
It is expected to be piloted in Nanjing Road, Bund and other tourist hot spots in 2016.
