Mi City, ONT. —
Hydrogen company
And the pipeline giant Enbridge.
Announced the establishment of a joint venture to develop utilities
Energy reserves in North America.
The agreement includes $5-
Enbridge's million equity investment in hydrogen power generation companies combines hydrogen's expertise in water electrolysis with Enbridge's expertise in gas pipeline networks and renewable energy generation.
According to the plan, hydrogen generated during excess renewable energy generation will be injected into Enbridge's existing natural gas pipe network to increase the renewable energy content in the natural gas pipeline proportionally, basically to increase the operating cost of the electrolytic unit.
"In the existing gas pipeline network, a small amount of hydrogen can be managed," the two companies said in a joint statement.
"As the size of the natural gas pipe network grows larger, the same amount of hydrogen has a very meaningful impact on the potential for electrical energy storage.
Collaboration between Hydrogenics and Enbridge will initially focus on the deployment of utilities
Expand energy storage in Ontario and have the opportunity to expand to Enbridge's operations elsewhere.
Enbridge spokesman Chuck Szmurlo said in a press release: "this clean energy solution bridges power and gas networks to bring seasonal storage capabilities to power networks.
"This is another example of Enbridge investing in alternative energy technologies that complement our pipeline business while contributing to our growth in renewable and clean energy," deputy
President of Alternative and emerging technologies.
Daryl Wilson, president and CEO of Hydrogenics, said the two companies are looking forward to moving forward with giva-
Hourly potential for power storage.
"Compared to traditional energy storage methods, hydrogen solutions have unique advantages, providing unparalleled energy storage capabilities and application flexibility to meet the growing demand for energy storage by North American grid operators.
"With approximately 6,900 employees, Enbridge operates the world's largest crude and liquid transport system, with pipelines throughout North America and is Canada's largest gas distribution company operating in Ontario, Quebec and New York.
It is also involved in natural gas collection and midstream operations, and is increasingly involved in power transmission, and is interested in the generation capacity of renewable and alternative energy sources of nearly 1,000 MW.
Hydrogenics is the developer and manufacturer of hydrogen generation and fuel cell products.
