I recalled the laptop battery after it was found to be prone to overheating and pose a fire hazard.
HP said in a statement on Wednesday that the affected battery packs were distributed in several laptops manufactured from August 2007 to May 2008.
"HP fully supports the products it produces and takes a proactive approach to this situation to ensure the safety of our customers and the integrity and quality of our products, xinhua quoted the company as saying in a statement.
Customers of affected products will receive free replacement battery packs for each verified, recalled battery pack, the statement said.
