Here's a surprise: 105-year-
Old Residence at 20 Mill Street
Just south of Queen Street near Joseph Schneider House Museum, it costs only $138 a year.
There is also one: the bathroom floor is a clever mix of recycled wine bottle plugs and wooden tiles on the roof, which is expected to last for 50 years, mainly made from recycled car tires and recycled industrial plastics
Another surprise was that the streets were flooded during a recent storm, but there was no water in the driveway.
The engineering gravel bed under the ground allows water to penetrate into the soil.

"At Factory 20, we want to show people a variety of options, big or small, that can make their minds accept a lot of possibilities," Evans said . ".
Ben Barclay, project manager, said the renovated house proved that all homeowners could be eco-activists.
"I want people to come in here and realize the tremendous power they have to make environmental changes in their own lives," he said . ".
"I hope this House will inspire people.
In addition to viewing the house, visitors can also see the unique "modeling" software that Barclays has dreamed.
The software will allow future customers of the Waterloo area green solution to calculate the cost, return and energy saving of the green option after inserting their own home specifications, such as: Furnace age, furnace type, etc.
"We have 15 different insulation materials that you can compare their efficiency and cost and we can simulate it into your actual house," Barclay said . ".
Homeowners can also get information about provincial grants for insulation, furnace upgrades, windows and other measures.
Barclays hopes that the House will become the first house in Canada to receive an environmental rating for the renovation project.
"We don't know who else has reached that level," he said . ".
The design phase of the project started in 2008, when the Waterloo area loaned two houses for Green display purposes.

"We estimate that there are 20,000 old century homes in the area that are basically not insulated," Barclay said . ".
There are three types of stoves in the house so that it can show the heating cost of each furnace: geothermal unit ($138 a year)

"With all the insulation, we hardly need a stove," Barclay said . ".

Some people live nearby and go to work on foot or by bike, such as gerals Tarabin, the chief hand, and Julia Skinner, the painter.
"It made me feel like I was actually doing something for the Earth," Skinner said . " Skinner waved a hammer at home two months after her son Logan was born.
"I have a bathroom and two closets to do," she said . ".
"I like the job.
It is encouraging to repair and rebuild old houses.

Instead of a car, he goes to work by bike and bus.
Without vehicles, some days are easier than others.
Having a daughter representing the hockey team in Guelph means carpooling for a few days and sometimes renting a car.
After moving from Toronto to BC in his teens, the 50-year-old Barclay planted an estimated 300,000 trees.
"He started his life's desire to find a way to walk more easily on this planet.
Meanwhile, Evans says she is anxious to learn what her old house can do.
"The exciting thing about REEP House for me is that it gets people out of indecisive paralysis," Evans said . ".
"It is very gratifying to come to a place that can help me get through my paralysis and move forward.
Evans and Barclays, using their sense of humor to help them complete their visionary projects, are now considering how to promote the house on Mill Street --
Including discussion of "sexy" insulation materials.
They are considering connecting insulation to underwear.
"Would you wear underwear if you were not insulated and had air-conditioning flow? ” Barclay says.
"Canadians can have more fun in life with the right insulation," he said with a smile . ".
Note: REEP House is located at 20 Mill Street with limited parking space at the back.
But the Joseph Schneider House museum allows visitors to park in the parking lots on Queen Street and Mill Street on Saturday. There is no on-street parking.
After today's free open door event, group tours for up to five people will take place from Monday and the software will be displayed.
