VICTORIA —B. C.
The Minister of Energy has launched a new review to discover B. C.
As Royal hydro struggled with growing debt burdens, uncertain power forecasts and the government's desire to keep interest rates under the lowest possible political pressure.
Michelle Munger said Monday that the review of hydropower will be divided into two phases.
The first project will work to find internal efficiencies, new sources of revenue and help determine the growth rate of Hydro next year.
The second will see a panel of experts planning the future of the public --
Power companies are in the midst of changing technology and the government's upcoming climate action plan.
"The bottom line for me is that we want to do B. C.
Mungall told Postmedia News on Monday that "water and electricity works will be provided for future British columnians . ".
"We need to have a better understanding of the load requirements in the future and how we will meet that demand and what is the best way to keep the cost low British Columbian
Mungall noted that as water and electricity in a region will have to cope with the increasing number of electric vehicles and charging stations.
Water and electricity prices rose three percentage points in April 1
Residential customers increased by an average of $23 per year.
The NDP government promised in last year's election to keep electricity bills low and to freeze them, eventually resulting in hydro companies not being able to give up the money.
David Austin, a senior energy analyst, said there are three main problems with Hydropower: it has historically been unable to accurately predict how much electricity British columnians will actually use, in addition to the billions of existing debt it has not repaid, it has added billions of new debt each year, and it doesn't have the ability to take advantage of new power technologies, including fast-
Improved and cheaper batteries for storing wind, solar and other alternative sources of energy. B. C.
Power companies need to actively convert people from fuel sources such as natural gas into electricity to increase their customer base, Austin said.
This will help the province achieve its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
"In the past, there was not much focus on increasing demand, and efforts must be made to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the future," Austin said . ".
"You have to get people to switch fuel and get people to move from fossil fuel to electricity as quickly as possible.
Hydro has nearly $6 billion in deferred and regulatory accounts --
Electricity users must one day repay the loan at a higher interest rate.
It also costs $2 on average.
The number of old transmission lines and equipment updated increased by 4 billion per year.
Prime Minister John Hogan has recently increased the debt of hydro.
While hydro can raise interest rates to help pay off debt and postpone accounts, the move will conflict with the government's political claims that the cost of voters remains at the lowest possible level.
"Hydro is in a hole deep enough that there won't be any overnight solution," said energy lawyer Jim quire . " He added that he thought the review was a good idea.
"Everyone likes to find efficiency, but it's like trying to move a mountain with a teaspoon to solve the problem they're dealing with, and the amount of deferred operating costs.
Mungall said Hydro's finances were "a mess" in the past, saying she had confidence in the leadership of B. C.
Hydro tried to pay off the debt. “B. C.
Hydro may be on track to repay the deferred account, but their presence still has a lot of concerns about how high they are, "she said.
"Even if things go well, the books are well kept and we should be in this situation in the first place, it's a fair question and it's part of our review.
"Before the results of the review came out, Hydro has now suspended new independent power projects.

The private sector, representing many of these companies, said that the private sector could play a role in helping hydropower move to the forefront of new technologies and battery storage.
"They can do a lot of things, jae Mather said:" There are a lot of Crown power companies around the world that are working on the same problem, and many of them have started to make the transition to increased load through electrified, executive director of clean energyC.
"B. The only way is to be electrified. C.
It will meet our climate goals and therefore be in line with the government's policies.
"The government will release a roadmap for achieving pollution reduction and climate change targets this fall, which may include a new set of orders for water and electricity advancement.
"Our biggest concern is whether we will set achievable or unachievable goals and whether we will implement what we need to succeed? ” said Mather.
"That's what we look forward to seeing.
