According to The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, GM will suspend production of its Volt hybrid to cut excess stocks that have been touted as the future of the US auto giant.
Production of gasoline-
Electric hybrid vehicles will stop operating at the GM plant in hamtrammark, Michigan in September 17 and resume operating in October 12, the second time in a year to cut production to meet weak demand for cars.
According to the report, the company has sold $10,666 ($740) Volts so far this year.
The company had hoped to sell 60,000 Volts worldwide in 2012, including 45,000 Volts in the United States.
In June, gm ceo Dan Ackerman predicted sales between 35,000 and 40,000.
GM engineers will use production disruptions to prepare production lines for the redesigned Chevrolet Impala manufacturing, the report said.
