Gateway recalls overheating notebook batteries - ion battery

The committee said in a press release that the battery pack could overheat and pose a fire hazard.
Gateway received 4 reports of overheating of the battery pack, resulting in some minor property damage.
There were no reports of injuries.
Some gateways have about 14,000 battery packs for the main or standby power supply for 400VTX and the goprog series laptops-
Identified by part number 6500760 or 6500761-were recalled.
Part numbers and "SMP manufacturing" are printed on labels on the underside of the battery pack.
Gateway said in a statement that the batteries were sold from May 2003 to August 2003.
It is not a defect inside the battery, the commission said.
Battery pack recall is a separate case involving a manufacturer that differs from the massive recall of Sony battery last year.
Toshiba on Tuesday
They admitted that a laptop that had not been replaced by a recalled Sony battery pack suddenly caught fire in the UK last month.
