S. officials say they will cancel the order after receiving a revamp of the battery system for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
But while the root cause of the battery failure that caused a fire on one aircraft and smoke on the other was still unknown, the move took place.
The Federal Aviation Administration says it will issue a notice next week. month-

Boeing can then begin to transform aircraft using an enhanced lithium-ion battery system.
The FAA told lawmakers that the dream flight could be restarted within a week.
The FAA last month asked Boeing to test the improved system, which includes additional insulation around each of the eight batteries of the battery to prevent one of them from short-circuit or catching fire.
The new system also includes better emissions of smoke and gas from inside the battery to outside the aircraft.
There is also a stronger box that can hold the battery to ensure that it does not spread to the rest of the aircraft if a fire occurs.
S. FAA director Michael Huerta told Congress earlier this week that Boeing had conducted 20 successful tests of the new system.
The FAA action will directly affect United Airlines and its six 787 aircraft.
United Airlines is the only airline in the United States that has a Dreamliner.
But aviation authorities in other countries are also expected to follow suit quickly.
On January 7, a fire broke out on a Japanese Airlines 787 aircraft parked at Boston Logan International Airport, and Boeing delivered 50 aircraft to eight airlines in seven countries.
The second incident, nine days after the FAA and other authorities, led to a full-day air 787 airlines landing in Japan, stopping the entire fleet.
