A Calgary woman says she has been pushing for pedestrian crossing lights to be installed at the southeast intersection where pedestrians were fatally attacked yesterday.
A man is on the marked crosswalk of Douglas Boulevard and Douglas Woods Avenue. E. at 6:45 a. m.
When he was hit on Wednesday
He was seriously injured and later died in hospital.
"I 've been calling 311 for a year," said Jennifer McDougall . " She has lived in Douglas Dale for 20 years.
"To be honest, I am very sad about what happened . . . . . . But this is inevitable because I am a pedestrian and a driver on this road and it is just a disaster waiting to happen.
McDougall said she told her children to let the driver see them.
City officials told her that it would take six months to a year to study whether traffic lights were needed at the intersection. Ald.
Shane Keating said the city should give up the long process currently needed to set up the intersection lights in the community.
"On the highway for pedestrians or residential areas, we really have to throw away the book and say, 'What can we do to make sure it's safe? '?
Keating said the city is testing a low on Douglas Dale Avenue further down the road
