The CEC released the energy storage roadmap released today by the Clean Energy Commission, which will help to release the exciting opportunities that energy storage technologies bring to power consumers and the renewable energy industry.
Kane Thornton, chief executive of the Clean Energy Commission, said that Australia's energy storage roadmap will help to develop the foundation and make full use of the technology's potential through cooperation with industry, regulators and careful strategic planning ensure consumers benefit from this exciting emerging technology.
"Energy storage technology has changed the rules of the game in the Australian Energy Market-they have greatly improved flexibility, reliability and efficiency in the way we generate and use electricity.
This means that our energy system will face lower costs and huge changes that are inevitable . "
"The Clean Energy Commission has been leading substantive work on energy storage behind the scenes.
This new roadmap reveals some of these work and sets the direction for the hard work that still needs to be done in terms of standards, regulations and removal of barriers.
"We invite key stakeholders who are currently active or want to know more about the storage industry in Australia to register for a new energy storage network to stay up to date --to-
State the latest industry developments and progress on the roadmap, listen to the latest industry news and receive the latest reports and event invitations.
He said: "We also invite leading companies interested in storage to join the new storage Advisory Group of the Clean Energy Commission, which will complement our current work on technical standards and security issues.
The roadmap focuses on the five key objectives of the sector: some of the already ongoing initiatives led by the Clean Energy Council include: developing important guidelines and standards for storage devices;
Installation and safety of residenceand commercial-
Scale storage technology;
Annual Survey of Australian storage industry
Consumer Guide for battery storage devices.
"When you talk about the next major technological breakthrough in clean energy, energy storage comes up again and again," Mr Thornton said . ".
"The Clean Energy Commission is excited about the opportunities presented by energy storage, and we hope that this roadmap will help the industry achieve sustained growth and high standards of security and integrity in the Australian market.
