Chennai: Sudeep Jain, chairman and director of the Tamil Nadu Energy Development Authority (TEDA), said that by 2015, Tamil Nadu will produce about 40% of the country's solar energy. Jain spoke Thursday at the city's International Symposium on renewable energy, climate change and energy management. Solar power generation will surge, he said, because as part of solar policy and plan, the country will complete the rooftop solar revolution by 2015. The state of Tamil Nadu currently produces about 8,000 MW of renewable energy. Jain said that the main challenge facing the country in developing power technologies is to develop better battery storage devices and other power storage systems. "We need to develop better technologies in this area. Such expertise will not come from developed countries. "Our technical institutions and research centers should launch such projects," he added .
