In addition to the emergency preparedness kit, here are a few other tips to help you get through the ice storm event: Before The Ice Storm --
Transfer the fridge and freezer to the coldest place. —
Fill up the fuel tank of the car.
In a snow storm
Close the door of the unwanted room to keep your home warm. —
Keep an eye on your neighbors, especially those who have children or live alone. —
The ice from freezing rain accumulates on branches, wires and houses.
If you have to go out after the ice disaster, please note the branches or wires that may break.
Keep in mind that branches and wires may split for hours after an ice storm. —
Do not touch the power cord.
Can charge the suspended wire (live)
You might get electrocuted.
During the blackout-
Stay warm during the power outage, stay inside and put on warm, layered clothes. —
Put the towel and rag under the door to keep the heat. —
Unplug the electronics and appliances to avoid a surge in power.
After restoring the power supply, turn on one appliance at a time. —
Turn off all the lights except one, so you can know when the power is back on. —
Do not operate generators, barbecues, propane and gas appliances at home or in a garage, as they can cause carbon monoxide poisoning. —
Make sure your home has a working carbon monoxide alarm with spare batteries. —
Check if the power cord is damaged or dropped, but do not close to the power cord to avoid the danger of electric shock. —
Do not open the refrigerator or refrigerator unless absolutely necessary.
If the door remains closed, a full fridge will freeze the food for 24 to 36 hours. —
If the candle is lit, the children will not be able to reach it.
Never leave the lit candles unattended. —
When burning fuel in the fireplace, make sure the fireplace screen is in place. —
Avoid burning garbage or paper in the fireplace, because the burning paper can climb up from the chimney and land on the roof.
