The customers should process the boards at the recycling center, the email said, adding that they will receive a full refund.
It said: "We regret the inconvenience this may have caused you, but believe you will understand that your safety and satisfaction are our top priority.
Another email sent to all who bought the motherboard warned that the trading standards raised concerns about its safety, particularly rechargeable lithium batteries and plugs, and included links to safety tips.
It requires anyone who does not want to keep the product to contact Amazon customer service.
The list of boards appears to have been removed from Amazon UK, John Lewis and Argos.
