Alliance for Clean Energy Solutions (ACES)
A coalition of organizations dedicated to advancing clean, economic and reliable energy for Massachusetts today announced its legislative priorities.
The priorities are based on the previous success of the Commonwealth in advancing clean energy, but also on a longer-term perspective, moving into new areas where action is taken to address pollution
Promote the development of clean energy, reduce climate pollution and its impact on health, protect consumers, promote economic growth and encourage innovation.
Deborah Donovan, director of Massachusetts at the Acadia Center, said: "Since the initial establishment of ACES, we have made great progress in advancing renewable energy generation, and our priorities continue to be
"Climate Science paints a clearer picture of the urgency of the crisis and asks Massachusetts to establish a clear long-term
Semester goals that reflect the latest data.
We call on the legislature to also address other areas where we have not made that much progress, such as modernizing the grid and reducing traffic emissions, while ensuring demand for low incomes, working-class communities and communities of color have become more central.
"Give priority to establishing long-term
Greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs)
Objectives, and by improving and expanding the state's procurement mechanism, continue the success of MIT in building renewable energy power generation.
They also aim to make substantial improvements to the region's power infrastructure by modernizing the grid to accommodate renewable energy and other clean resources, such as energy storage.
Finally, it is important for the alliance that they go beyond electricity and focus on the greenhouse gas impacts of transport.
"ACES policy priorities are critical to the future of the Commonwealth's economy, energy and environment," said Peter Rothstein, president of NECEC . ".
"Our diverse coalition is looking forward to working with the legislature to build on the cost of successful deployment in Massachusetts --
While driving innovation in clean technology and creating jobs, effective clean energy solutions reduce carbon emissions.
"The legislative priorities of ACES include: Transport climate policy and fair clean transport investment-a regional approach to implementing the transport climate policy under discussion (
Transport and Climate Initiative)
Invest in time to reduce traffic emissions and provide access to clean transport for all, including communities with minimal access to clean, reliable transport options, through the Commonwealth inclusive process.
Modern, clean and resilient power grids-providing a broad range of local energy sources for the future, including solar, storage and demand response, improving the timeliness and fairness of the interconnected process, smarter electricity prices, improved net metering, enhanced access to low and middle income (LMI)
Customers, increase the input of stakeholders.
Stronger long-term climate protection policies-expanding the greenhouse gas emission reduction requirements of the Global Warming Solutions Act (GWSA)
By using planning, public policies and funding to achieve the medium-term goals, achieving net zero emissions commensurate with the latest science by 2050 or earlier, maximizing energy efficiency and using 100% clean or renewable energy, deploy energy storage and other innovative clean technologies, implement natural climate solutions, and extend carbon pricing to all sectors.
Improving and expanding renewable energy procurement mechanisms-authorizing additional national and regional procurement of offshore wind energy and other category I renewable energy sources to prevent conflicts of interest in project assessment and selection, requiring climate benefits for all selected projects to enable new procurement mechanisms and sources of funding to empower businesses and communities, ensure that the environmental impact of power generation and transmission is appropriately avoided, minimized and mitigated.
In addition, ACES's legislative priorities include supporting specific strategies related to energy efficiency, clean and efficient heating, and electric vehicles.
"There are a lot of great policies in Massachusetts, but more policies are needed to address traffic emissions and meet our climate obligations," said Eugenia Gibbons, policy director of the green energy Consumer Alliance . ".
"With the right new policy mix, we can further reduce emissions and save more money by avoiding importing fossil fuels.
"Investing in clean energy solutions is an integral step in achieving climate goals and stimulating economic growth," said business leaders Alliance president Jesse Mel . ".
"The clean energy sector has created more than 100,000 jobs and contributed billions of dollars to the federal economy.
Advancing the ACES priorities can reaffirm the state's commitment to a cleaner future transition and signal that Massachusetts is a competitive place to work and do business.

Alliance for Clean Energy Solutions (ACES)
It is an "alliance" of business groups, clean energy companies, environmental organizations, labor, health and consumer advocates dedicated to advancing clean energy for Massachusetts.
ACES is committed to ensuring that those responsible for developing MIT energy policies have the most stringent and up-to-date data on clean energy benefits and costs.
Our goal is to ensure costs in the Commonwealth
Providing effective, reliable and diversified energy supplies to businesses, communities and families, which will reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and create a stable and prosperous business environment, meet the UK's greenhouse gas emissions requirements.
