Electric Power Corporation of AmericaInc. (AEP. N)
On Tuesday, it said it would spend about $27 million next year to increase fixed sodium sulfur batteries in service areas in West Virginia and Ohio to improve reliability and storage capacity.
AEP stated in a press release that it ordered three new batteries from NGK insulator Co. , Ltd (5333. T)

Technology.
AEP is expected to be delivered in the spring of 2008.
During this deployment, the six megawatts added to the AEP system were a step towards the company's goal of having 25 mw battery capacity by the end of the decade, over the next 10 years, the system will have advanced storage capacity of 1,000 MW.
In West Virginia and Ohio, a megawatt of electricity supplies about 800 homes.
In order to achieve this goal, AEP said that it will study various technologies
Pumping water and electricity, plug-in flow battery
In the early stages of hybrid cars and other technologies-
Identify the feasibility and potential of its commercial application.
"These new devices will enable us to improve and peak our reliability-
Michael Morris, chairman, president and chief executive of the AEP, said in a press release: "load reduction and the use of energy stored in renewable energy sources such as wind energy to supplement available power generation resources . ".
"Advanced storage technologies such as batteries and other emerging technologies," Morris added. . .
Will play an equally important role in delaying or avoiding future expensive investments in new energy delivery or power generation infrastructure.
AEP plans to add two megawatts of battery capacity near Milton, West Virginia, and two megawatts of battery capacity near Findlay, Ohio.
In the coming weeks, the company plans to announce the location of the third battery system, and the AEP plans to integrate with the wind farm to offset the intermittent wind power generation.
The AEP in Columbus, Ohio owns and operates more than 38,000 MW of power generation, sells energy goods, and transmits and distributes electricity to more than 5 million customers in 11 states.
