Everyone makes mistakes every once in a while, and we are sure that most drivers run out of gas at least once in their lives.
But as the saying goes, it's hard to bring a gallon of electricity back to your plug
If the battery is completely dead, it's in the car.
That's why AAA is now testing the fast-charging roadside assist for electric vehicles because they have put the battery pack flat and the owner is stuck there.
John Nielsen, AAA director of vehicle repair, purchase services and consumer information, discussed with GreenCarReports last week the organization's progress in prototyping roadside charging services.
"The secondary charge is good, but it doesn't make sense for the roadside service," he began . ".
"So we focus on DC fast charging," using the CHAdeMO standard now available for Nissan Leaf and 2012 Mitsubishi 'I' electric vehicles.
Three manufacturing methods for AAA are to test three different versions of portable charging devices, all of which are designed to be suitable for roadside service vehiclesor three-quarter-
A small commercial van or similar. -
But not a trailer.
One option is to use a generator driven by power take-off (PTO) on a 3/4-transmissionton truck;
The second energy stored using lithium
Ion battery pack;
The third is a generator that uses compressed natural gas or biodiesel as fuel.
Two of the three designs are currently being deployed.
They are already serving in the San Francisco Bay Area and Portland, and by the end of this year, Los Angeles, Seattle, Knoxville, Tampa will be on the list of pilot areas.
25 KW is enough to work with technical partners, the association decided to charge at a speed of 20 to 25 KW, which is high enough to allow service trucks to deliver 15 in about 10 minutes
That's not 50-
The kW rate is possible under the CHAdeMO standard, but it makes the cost of the equipment easier to manage.
The organization almost has to create its own portable DC Fast
Charging devices, says Nielsen;
This is not a pass. the-shelf item.
But since AAA has not responded to a charging service phone yet, it still has many questions to answer: Will the charging request be similar to out-of-gas calls?
Nelson thinks it's not.
Car owners who commute on weekdays may have predictable routes within their range-
But they may work harder when they have more different needs over the weekend.
What is electric-car-
Do you need a service call to have AAA members?
Is it enough to add 15 miles?
Is there any other roadside service demand for electric vehicles?
They don't have a liquid leak or a belt break, but could there be other types of emergencies?
How does AAA help educate members, car buyers and garages about electric cars?
Nielsen noted that all AAA members can call the roadside recharge phone for free.
Members in case of potential danger-
Those high next to the shoulder-
Fast traffic, or people with children in the car-
Get the highest priority, he said, but AAA is trying to "make every member happy" during the call ".
AAA has nearly 53 million members in North America and 1,100 offices in the United States and Canada.
It calls itself "the voice and main advocate of its members [and] drivers and travellers across the country.
