9 volt batteries How to Build Your Own Ultraviolet UV LED (Black Light) Flashlight

Work in well ventilated areas.Welding smoke is not fun.Wear safety glassesUltraviolet rays can be dangerous.Do not look directly at the lit led.Don't shine in the eyes of others. In middle school, I took a 6 week e-shop course. What I remember from the class was that I built some sort of "any idiot can do this" radio that didn't work.
Obviously, I am an exception to the rules.Looking back, I'm pretty sure I know what I did wrong. This is a very simple thing that the teacher should be able to discover and the project will be rescued in a minute or less.
I'm pretty sure my diode is reverse.
The simplest description of the diode is that it acts as 1-Current door.Although there are many sizes and types of diodes, they all perform this basic function. If the current is emitted from the positive and negative poles of the diode, it flows.
If it is sent from negative to positive, the current does not flow. The negative end of the diode is marked with stripes around its barrel.LEDs represent LEDs.LEDs are only LEDs that are lit out of current flow.
Since they are not cylindrical like most diodes, the marks of the positive and negative poles are different. The positive pole of the LED has longer legs than the negative pole. The resistance simply resists the current.
In practical applications, they reduce the electrical flow through the circuit. In our simple circuits, they are just to reduce the power supply so that the 9 v dc battery we power the flashlight does not burn the LEDs.The stripes on the resistance indicate what the resistance is.
For the sake of this simple project, we will not bother to learn to read them.I built some flashlights as a work project..There will be similar parts in any electronic warehouse.
No UV LEDs are stored, and they do have a range of normal colors if you want to make a different color.., Qty 6, Mfr.Part: VAOL-5GUVOT4, joint stock: 398-0973.These are 5mm transparent lenses and UV LEDs.
Straight through holes mean they can fit safely on the board. This is the design for most LEDs., Qty 3, Mfr.Part: CF-25-151-JTW, United stock: 840-0078.These are 150 Ohm carbon film resistors with radial leads.
The radial lead means that there are wires at both ends of the cylindrical body of the resistor., Qty 1, Mfr.Part: 30-101, joint inventory: 948-0321.This is a "always on" switch. It forms a complete circuit when you press the button. If it is released, it is open with no current traffic.
, Qty 1, Mfg.
Part: 40-12-9V-R-GL, combined stock: 278-0033.This is just a black box with a 9 v dc battery box.It includes connectors and wiring to connect the battery to the simple circuit you are going to build.
.Although I didn't use any wires other than the ones that came with the box case, about 18 or 20 wires are useful.Practice welding is also great before moving to the assembly. The simplest thing about welding is the scrap wire.
First practice stripping the plastic coating from the wire. All you need to do is expose 1/4 of the wires. If you take off too much, you can always trim it later.
The first step of welding is to "weld" the parts you want to weld.Tinning just put the solder on each part before you try to put them together.Warm up your soldering iron.Test it with solder to see if it's warm.If the solder melts quickly when it touches the tip or iron, then it is time to weld.
I set my pad at about 650 degrees F.
Touch the tip of the iron with the wires.
Keep it for about 3 seconds.
Now apply the solder to the wire (do not apply to the tip of the soldering iron ).If the wire is warm enough, the solder will be pulled in.Once you 've plated a few wires, try to weld them together.
Fix the two tin-plated ends together and apply the tip of the soldering iron.Solder from both ends should be re-melted and flowing together. You need to apply more tin paste with larger wires.
With the components we are using, you only need very little extra welding. While it sounds like you need 4 hands, the guy who trained me would hold both ends of the wire in one hand and the other with a soldering iron.He would put the shaft of the wire on the table and finally reached out.
Put the iron on the wire and one of their warm wires moves down to the end of the weld.Look, you see.I'm not that flexible, so you often find a soldering iron sticking out of my mouth.I don't recommend that, though. This is what works for me.Get Ready, Go.I found it easy to assemble everything.line fashion.Lay out the led, buttons, resistors, and wiring harness for the battery.
Tin all legs of the Assembly and the ends of the harness and the legs of the button. The wire on the harness is pre-But you want to make sure that the solder you are using sticks well to the parts, so I always fix them.Clip the leads onto the resistor so that they have a long lead and a lead with a length of about 1/4.
Take three LEDs and clip the longer leads so they are about 1/4 long.Weld the short lead of the resistor to the short lead of the LED.You should now have three LEDs with a leg resistor.
The longer lead is the positive side of the diode, so the resistor is on the side where the diode must flow to activate. Now take the other three LEDs and clip the long leads so they are about 1/4 long.Put all the electronic components on one side and grab the box and the drill bit.
You will want to know how you want to install LEDs.I put a pair in the middle of the front of the box, and the other pair outside the distance of about 1/8 on both sides.Apart from the fact that they need to be arranged in pairs, the spacing really doesn't matter.
Mark and drill once you think you have measured it.Drill holes with a small drill bit and the size rises slowly until the LED rod passes through but does not fall.At this stage I used a roll of tape or a welding roller as a work table.
Put the front you have drilled on one of your rolls of solder.Bend the six 1/4 legs on the led so they can stick out straight.Basically it should be about 90 degrees.Place a pair of LEDs (one with resistance, one without resistance) in a pair of holes so that the two bent legs point to each other.
Weld the two bent legs together.
You can pull them out and do the next two pairs.Be sure to put each pair in the correct hole.If your drilling is a bit small, the spacing will be slightly different for each pair.
Put all three pairs of resistors back on the same side.Bend the leg of one of the end resistors 90 degrees so that it crosses with the other two resistors.Weld the bent legs to the legs of the other two resistors.
Use cross legs to clip the extra legs in their position. On the other side, bend one leg from the LED and cross the other two legs.Weld them together and clamp the end like you just did on the resistance side.
Welding Black batteries to non-resistor side.Clamp the battery at the end and touch the red line with the resistance-side wire.It doesn't matter where.Because this is a parallel circuit, the current is the same everywhere.
All 6 led should be lit.
If not, check your solder joints and make sure everything is still connected.Flip the battery if there is no light, touch the connector (yes, back ).Do they light? If so, your led is backwards.
I built about 40 this week and finally I poured a pair on the battery connector, a bad solder joint (so not mine, thank goodness ).OK, take out the battery and put it aside if everything is OK.Put the LED assembly you just made at the end of the box.
What you want to do is mark a position and drill holes for the button. All I did was weld a button contact directly to the wire on the resistor. You can weld the wire from one terminal to the resistor if you wantside wire.
Drill holes, pop-up buttons (no, not that simple), weld a contact to the Resistance side (or the wire between the two) then weld the red line on the battery connector to another lead on the button.Reconnect the battery and test again.Everything ok?You\'re done.If not, please check the solder joints again.Welding takes time and practice."The bigger the spots, the better the work" is not a fact.
A lot of welding should not be required to complete the work. You will use more in the first place. When you become more confident and experienced, you will use less.In addition, one trick to test welding is to weld the two wires together.
Pull hard.
The joint should not be given.
If you are using a real light Spec wire, it should break but not at the solder joints. If done correctly, the welding point will be the strongest part of the wire. The last thing I did was put a lot of hot glue on everything.
If the flashlight drops, this will hold the position of all the led and buttons and keep the solder joints together.Don't stick it yourself.It\'s hot glue.Locate the battery and wires so you can complete the assembly of the box without pressing the wires.Screw the case in with the supplied screws.
You\'re done.
You have a flashlight now and You can play CSI: You with it
