Some things may wake you up in the middle of the night and this is the first time you have climbed up the lid of your RV.
Worried that you forgot to use the parking brake, it is possible to roll down the mountain and die. (
You did it, you did it. )
Thinking about someone turning the bathroom lights on, wondering if this would drain the battery of the RV in the morning. (
They have, but not. )
Hear the camper break the sacred "quiet" after 9: 00"m.
"The rules and imagine they will be broken. (They did. )
Wondering if the bacon and eggs you bought for breakfast tomorrow morning are really toast now, as you are told that if the RV is parked on the slightest slope, the fridge will mysteriously stop working. (They are. )
Interestingly, I spent half my life dreaming of starting for the unknown part in the RV and keeping the perfect level of appliances that never entered the fantasy.
For me, the RVing is just the ultimate escape route.
Maybe it was because my early family holiday was around camping and car trips.
Perhaps because buying a RV is a way for inland countries to save up for sailing boats.
No matter where you want to go, this is a holiday home as long as you want.
This is equal freedom and security.
I'm Louis and Clark. 8 engine.
Look at this cool mobile home.
Still, during the weeks of my first RV trip, my anxiety was almost as fast as the price of gasoline.
Absolute size of vehicle--
In fact, it's filled with cutlery and combustible fuel. -
Became even more terrible a minute ago.
To calm the panic, I studied the online forum for RV enthusiasts
Review the targeted videos on the website and RVRental website (twice).
I brought back the backup: Lindsay and Lola, a couple of friends I 've known since college who generously see disaster as an adventure.
They tried to distract me by focusing on our packaging priorities: hiking gear
Lawn games with SPF 15 or 30.
It does not help.
However, when we arrived at the US cruise rental site in Durham, New York,C.
I started to calm down, partly because of a petite 20-
The girl handed me the key and I thought maybe I could if she could drive a big rig too.
We got some simple advice from the RV guys: drive the car into the intersection before turning.
Leave a lot of space for the brakes.
Always use the observer when you back up. Drive-
It's just not worth the adventure through the restaurant.
We learned when to use batteries, propane, shoreline electricity and generators;
How to restart the battery without electricity:
Necessity of closing propane tank before refueling;
How to heat the water for the shower and how to tell when the water supply is almost exhausted;
And how to level the rig out with a pair of twoby-
There are four boards if our camp is tilted.
We got the details of emptying the tank. -
A polite way to clean the toilet-
The mission quickly replaced the highway and became my most terrible challenge.
"Once you screw the hose ---
Make sure you screw it tight-
Then open the valve and walk away, "said Tommy, our instructor. "Or run.
I wet my feet more often than I want to recall.
"I reached an agreement with the girls to use the rest area of the camp as much as possible and add latex gloves to our shopping list.
Then we had several attempts to spin around the parking lot and Lindsay was sitting in the navigator's seat and Lola relaxed --
We were on duty at the back and entered a wide range.
The first is the rattle.
Every bump on the road, every cup, plate and Pan in our kitchen cupboard trembled like a beat --
A shopping cart was pushed down a stone road. (
Later, I realized that it was very helpful to put paper towels between dishes. )
Then the formula.
Turn left and a set of drawers will be opened with thwak sliding.
Turn right and the other drawer will do the same.
We already know that all the RV trips are-hands-on-deck endeavors.
In addition to the navigation, Lindsay is my second pair of eyes to change the lane and will be my second pairin-
Cancel the command for setup and failure duties.
Lola pulled the drawers and cabinets and stood at the back window looking at the small back --
Complete the task and become a kitchen chef during the trip.
Lindsay said after our first refueling: "It's like a rope, its propane-off, propane-on, secure-all-items drill.
"Maybe we should do some trust waterfall on the beach.
Six hours, three stops, a possible bird hit (
None of us want to check the grille to confirm)
Later, we arrived at camp Frisco, one of the four camps managed by the National Park Authority.
We have enough time to practice.
Park before evening.
When I realized my first RV error: No matter where we want to go, we have to take the RV with us and relocate every time we come back. (
Professionals either bring bicycles or drag a regular car ---
Usually called a small boat. -behind the RV. )
So, we tied ourselves to the village of hatras five miles away to get dinner, and then started the parking procedure an hour later ---
This time in the dark, the girls waved their flashlights like traffic batons. To celebrate--
Not just parking, but surviving the first day. -
We split a bottle.
Store wine around the RV's restaurant, the only place for the three of us to sit face to face.
"My apartment is worse than this," I looked around and said . ".
The kitchen must be worse.
Very modern furniture--
New navy fabric trim and matching curtains
Look at appliances and cabinets
Although I think we are overcrowded, there is a lot of unused storage in the dozen cabinets of the RV.
What was even more impressive to me was that I was able to walk around the entire cabin at a full height without squatting or hitting anything.
Until bedtime.
I called the berth on the taxi. -
It could be an unconscious forcing to stay near the driver's seat.
Manipulating the crawling of my limbs,space-
The size of the Cubby guarantees a raised elbow, knee or forehead for each entrance and exit.
The girls share a double bed at the back as converting the dining room to a third bed requires a lot of map cleaning, snacks
Food containers and insect repellent cans that have been piled up on the table.
Shout out our good night, joke in the dark, this is the closest thing I can imagine to an adult overnight ---
More intimate and stupid than staying in a hotel room.
See more about glamping (
Short for charming camping)
See camp Frisco during the day-
In fact, just after sunrise, thanks to the chatter of the people who got up early in the camp ---
After intermittent sleep on the first night, a new perspective is provided.
It's easier than I thought to arrange our morning routine.
Toilet and shower--
One of the fragile jobs is the hand-held sprayer, which can easily fall off the mountain ---
Tied up in a closet.
Room size, about 4 feet by 4 feet on top. (
Its door is only a few inches away from where Lindsay and Lola sleep, another reason to save on the facilities. )
Nevertheless, the teensy bathroom sink is right outside the shower/toilet;
In a slightly larger kitchen sink a few feet away, two people can brush their teeth at the same time.
Lindsay was the first person to go out and discuss with the park rangers to plan the activities of the day (
Go to the beach, go to the lighthouse, have lunch.
The proximity of the ocean solved the traffic problem.
After all, who needs a car when you can walk to the beach?
Location of external banks-a 130-
A narrow barrier island a mile long, less than a mile wide, if its length--
This is the main reason why I chose this place for trial run. There are 20-
Along this avenue plus camp, just a mile from the Atlantic Ocean or the Pamlico Strait.
At $20 a night in Frisco, you can enjoy a peaceful, peaceful environment and enjoy your own beachfront property.
Something you can't buy for $20: heated camp shower or any way to charge your phone.
So one night will be our limit.
The 30 mile road between Frisco and Rodin, where we will Camp next, through a series of close
The same small village with a dream name: Avon, salvo, and the waves.
The longer we drive, the less I worry about all the people in the rearview mirror who obviously want to put me in two seats --lane highway.
I was distracted by shaking down the window and turning on the radio.
Our next stop is an oasis where water and electricity flow freely, and quiet time doesn't start until the wild --and-crazy 10 p. m.
Although I have always been fascinated by the life in the RV, pulling into the corner of hatras KOA is a revelation.
Everyone lives outside the car here.
Around us, colorful awnings, canvas tent chairs, outdoor carpets, wind chimes, string lights in the shape of a airflow trailer, plastic plaid tablecloths, tiki torches, the dream catcher for each site is markedbe front lawn.
We envy our neighbors, a retired duo from N. Farmville. C. For their old age. school, beige-
Winnebago stripes (
Our RV is full of rental ads)
And simple setup: an AstroTurf swatch, enough for their two folding chairs and a small table.
We don't have anything. -
I'm nothing--
Make our RV feel at home.
Alas, the most sacred thing we can muster is to try the RV kitchen.
How about grilled cheese sandwiches? " Lola asked.
Since there was no real counter space, she laid the plate over the stove to prepare the ingredients and then moved the plate to a small piece of awkward space behind the sink. As the stove (
Soon after, RV)
She changed her mind with excitement.
"Let's eat cold cheese sandwiches? " she asked.
The plan was abandoned. we took the sandwiches to the nearest picnic table.
The stove was never turned on.
It's vital to have a place to distribute--
Especially when you squeeze a family of four or five into a usable living space as large as a large tool shed.
But it is also a shame to stay inside;
RV Park is a paradise for Peeps-
People watch the game in the most reciprocal way.
Several times, I met a man with a white ponytail who was sitting naked outside the RV and peeling peas.
He asked me how I was doing and when I replied kindly, he said, "I'm just doing it and trying to enjoy myself. . .
This is not too difficult.
"He doesn't need to blink--
But I think he did it anyway.
Our favorite acquaintance at the camp is Kilo, a nervous but friendly tanand-
White Chihuahua accompanying KOA employee John around ---
Show new arrivals to their website and help campers build. (
An explanation of his name?
"He's from Mexico. " Roger that. )
Judging from all the group activities in the camp, it is safe to say that RVers are very social.
Even campers who would rather spend their afternoon at the beach-
Like us, most of the time-
There are plenty of opportunities to interact after sunset.
One night, we found the opening number on karaoke night. -
Cee Lo Green swearing
Free Radio hit show "Forget You" performed by a teenage staff member;
Next, we watched the outdoor screening of Kung Fu Panda.
We even organized some of our own social events and invited 30-
The Texans helped us to light the fire to make stuff for s's mores.
Another mess: When you finish dessert, don't know the right way to put out the fire.
We poured a full bucket of water from the kitchen on the fire and sent a smoke signal to the entire camp, and we knew nothing about it.
By the end of the day, we had made more mistakes and laughed the most easily.
But I can't afford a RV mission.
It's time to hold the tank.
Lindsay followed me outside and gave me spiritual support. -
Remind me to run.
Luckily, I didn't get my feet wet, although I did leave a short blue chemical between the dump on our site and the RV (
Hope no one noticed).
Return of 5. m.
When we finally reached the empty road heading north to the head of ags, the waste disposal came, and the sky slowly brightened every mile.
The only traveller out there is seabirds and rabbits, and I have long been bothered by every lane change, left turn or loose kitchen drawer.
Even shut down propane in our last gas.
The second is the station.
Finally, just as we left, I had the hang of it.
Next time, I can even take the courage to bake a cheese sandwich or two.
